The Poems Series begin as most of my non-objective black and white drawings do with playing around with lines and shapes and values. In this case I had the idea of using a single circle and a ragged line on a gray rectangle. Something about that initial image, it's spareness and simplicity, reminded me of Japanese Haiku poetry. And so the series was named, Poems.
